WELCOME TO LAPHAM CENTER
All adult New Canaan residents (not just seniors!) are welcome to participate in classes and programs at Lapham. There is no membership fee or requirement beyond town residency and the ability to participate.

Registration begins now and continues until all programs are filled. If there are oversubscribed classes, we will hold a lottery on November 22.

Phone reservations can be taken for free programs; we can also take credit cards over the phone for Town classes.

Please make a reservation for all classes and programs so we are able to have adequate chairs and handouts.

Check out all our activities - we hope you'll find new interests and new friends at Lapham!

Program Fees
All adult education class fees are noted in the Newsletter. Many class fees are structured according to the age of the participant so that people aged 60+ pay a lower fee. Any higher fees, [indicated in brackets], are for those aged 59 and younger. Checks should be made payable to "Town of New Canaan" unless otherwise noted. Scholarships are available for those finding it difficult to pay fees; call Lyn Bond at 203-594-3620.

Many fees are also based on a three month (seasonal) schedule. Participants who are unable to attend all three months may be able to sign up for a shorter period; however, people wanting to sign up for the entire period will be accommodated first. Call Aggie at 203-594-3620 to work out pro-rated classes.

Volunteer Opportunities

OUR VOLUNTEERS!

Lapham Community Center has an active volunteer program. Volunteers teach classes, man the telephones and sign-in desk, and offer specialized services, such as notarizations and insurance counseling (through the New Canaan Commission for the Aging). Other volunteers, who enjoy gardening, work in the greenhouse and help keep the gardens planted and watered. Volunteers from local churches assist with the preparation and serving of lunch on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Call the Center at 203-594-3620, if you are interested in volunteering.

Senior Center Mission Statement
The Senior Center provides programs and services for seniors that will help them to live happier, healthier and more productive lives. To this end we offer activities and programs in areas such as adult education, the arts, health, recreation, nutrition, information and referral and other supportive services as well as opportunities for volunteer work. We operate on the premise that aging is a normal developmental process, that people need peers with whom they can interact and who are available as a source of encouragement and support, and that adults should have a voice in determining matters in which they have a vital interest. We therefore always try to provide those programs and services for which our participants have expressed interest or need.
