Join us for lunch on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at noon. Local caterer Susan Goodman cooks on Wednesdays. Tuesday is usually soup, sandwiches, salads, or quiche. Call 594-3620 to reserve. Lunch is $4. Medicare Advantage Plan Assistance

Seniors who receive their Medicare benefits through a "Medicare Advantage Plan" (usually an "HMO" type arrangement) have generally avoided the task recommended for those on "Traditional Medicare" of doing an annual computer analysis to determine whether their Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) are appropriate for the following year. Volunteers at Lapham did 254 computer searches for those folks before the December 31, 2009 deadline for 2010 PDPs, 118 of them found a better or cheaper plan.      Those with Medicare Advantage Plans also have the opportunity of making choices which might be to their advantage. These choices involve, among other things, changing one's Advantage Plan to a less expensive Plan or to a Plan with different benefits more appropriate to their circumstances, or changing to Traditional Medicare in combination with a PDP and a "GAP" insurance policy which covers some or all deductibles and co-pays. Such changes can be made one time each year without any penalties by the deadline of March 31. If you would like assistance in considering such a change, call 203-594-3620 to set up an appointment.
