Mark Schenker on Julius Caesar
Monday, June 9, 1:00 p.m., Free
Beyond performances in the park, Shakespeare on the Sound funds an extensive Educational Outreach program, which gives the works of Shakespeare a vibrant life beyond the summer festival.
Written just before Hamlet, Julius Caesar similarly presents the tragedy of an idealistic and virtuous man who is burdened by the invitation to kill a king. Mark Schenker of Yale University will consider the tragic consequences of decisive action in a world of moral and political ambiguity, and the ways in which Shakespeare uses the conventions of theater--rhetoric, performance, stage-managing, spectacle--to dramatize both the debased politics of the late Roman Republice and the ever-present tension between reality and appearance.
Julius Caesar will be presented nightly from June 12 to 28 in Rowayton's Pinkney Park, and July 4 to 13 in Baldwin Park in Greenwich.

Bruce Museum Slide Show: Works From the Collection of Jacques Goudstikker
Wednesday, June 11, 1 p.m., Free
The Bruce Museum has assembled an exhibition of rarely seen Old Master and other paintings drawn from the collection of Jacques Goudstikker, a preeminent art dealer in Amsterdam prior to World War II. Tragically, he died in an accident while escaping the Nazi invasion. Only recently have his heirs been able to reclaim from the Dutch government 200 of the 1,400 works of art that he was forced to leave behind and that were looted by Goering.
Approximately thirty-five of the finest works have been selected for an international touring exhibition that will showcase the discerning eye of Jacques Goudstikker.
Your guide to highlights of the collection will be Salli Garrick, who was recently honored by the Bruce Museum by being named Docent of the Year. She is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic speaker who has garnered a fan club here at Lapham. Call to reserve a seat.
The exhibit will be at the Bruce until September 7th.

Southwestern CT Area Agency on Aging:
Information for Caregivers
Wednesday, June 11, 10:30 a.m., Free
Nearly 22 million American workers are also caregivers for their parents or older relatives. The Administration on Aging (AOA) states that two-thirds of caregivers in the United States also work outside of the home. This makes balancing work and family quite a juggling act.
Nancy Lombard, Caregiver Resources Coordinator and Lisa Alhabal, Respite Care Coordinator at SWCAA will give an overview of programs available to seniors in our area with an emphasis on services for caregivers and their client or family member. They will discuss respite and supplemental services, caregiver resources and groups, and much more.
This is an important program for anyone who is, knows or who might be a caregiver.
